Manila American Cemetery and Memorial

 I had the privilege of visiting the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial during my recent Manila trip.  It is administered and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and also the American Battle Monuments Commission and is immaculate.

Rather than repeating the information from elsewhere I'll just post my photos which include wall size depictions of various sea and air campaigns and are worth a read.  

































The Americans cop a lot of flak but nobody can deny they have done the heavy lifting over the years and paid a high price.

2024 Mini Icicle Ride

`The other day I washed the track bike and as I put it away I noticed my Ninja 1000 looking forlornly at me, wondering when it too might receive some attention.  If it was hoping for a warm wash and a polish then it was to be disappointed as I decided that it was time for a decent ride as it had been way too long.  So where does a (reasonably) sane person decide to ride in the middle of winter?  A 910km round trip to Glen Innes of course where the overnight temps are below zero - my mini icicle ride!  First stop  AMX to get a decent winter jacket and as it turned out they had a special going so I got $75 worth of gear for free by buying the jacket. Return to the track

  This week marked a return to track days after a break of just over a year, mainly due to some health issues.  At the start of 2024 I found myself at a decision point:  it has been a year so do I let it go or get back into it?  I decided to get back into it and do it properly and as mentioned in my other post I have upgraded to a more capable bike.  A factoid about race bikes is that they don't have sidestands, unnecessary weight, which means I now need a pit crew member at least until I develop the coordination to dismount and fit the stand myself so I sold the experience to Melissa as 'helping me out in the pits followed by lunch at a winery the next day and an extra night in the cabin. Unfortunately I was unable to get the extra night due to accommodation being fully booked out thanks to a big car festival the following weekend but we'll do it next time.   We loaded up the cruiser with the bike gear and overnight bags and headed down to Warwick the...

Update for the last year

       Well it has been a long time since I updated the blog, mainly a function of life getting in the way and another round of 'character-building' challenges to deal with. I left off in early 2025 and since then I have had a lot of time of work and yet more health challenges to deal with.  After a total of six months off work, great expense and a plethora of testing and reports I resumed working in October 2025 and breathed a great sigh of relief. So I figure I'll just post a few photos taken along the way. As for 2026 I am hopeful that unlike the last few years this year will be one of great progress and enjoyment with plenty of flying, riding (both power and pedal) and touring in the 4wd. I no longer travel to the US which isn't a huge concern given the state of play but it does mean a bit less variety in my destinations which are now essentially Singapore, Manila and Tokyo/Narita with the odd little bit of domestic thrown in. Onwards and upwards. Enjoy....
